Hi-Ho Silvers!

Team USA captured three silver medals by the close of business today! Natalie played Samantha Teran (MEX) in the womens individual finals and lost a close 5 game battle, 11-8 in the fifth. Natalie remains a hero to all of us! Sobhy, a 3rd/4th place finisher, joined her on the medal stand.

The womens doubles was amazing and in the finals, Kristen and Olivia came awfully close to a victory over Colombia, but unfortunately they lost 2-1. Their semi-final against Argentina was tremendous squash - they won 2-0, came back from 7-10 in the second game and at 10-10, match ball, Argentina served out! Great stuff from Team USA in their first time as dubs partners!

The mixed doubles was outstanding as Todd and Amanda played Argentina in the finals in front of a jam packed gallery. Shot to shot, every rally was a nailbiter. Todd and Amanda had them left, right and a few times in the center. Each player hit the deck at least once and there were even a few rolls to add to the drama. In the end, they went down 2-1, 11-9 in the third. The crowd went nuts! As did the papa razzis when they hit the medal stand...

So, while Team USA has played with tons of skill, guts, and energy, the three gold medals we were positioned for were just a wee bit out of reach. The upside, we've begun collecting and we fully intend to add to the collection as the team event begins tomorrow. Everyone is healthy, well-fed and hydrated and somewhat punchy from long hours at Sporta Club, but we're ready to make a splash in our pool play!

Here are a few shots of the medal ceremonies. Chris and I think this is a fantastic group. We've had no shortage of laughter - and at the same time, Team USA is here to do business and our competitors feel our sense of purpose.

It was cloudy today (maybe that's why there was no internet signal!) so there were no sightings of the volcanoes that pepper this land, but indeed, early this morning, seismologists recorded a 4.8 earthquake about 20 miles from here. Much closer and I wont be able to get an internet connection to tell you about it...

Look for teams info and results late tomorrow, Hope
