Kicking Volcanic Ash!

Team USA kicked some volcanic ash today! It was mostly clear today so I was able to snap a great picture of Volcano Agua! Volcano Fuego, another local active volcano, was sending smoke signals today but it was hard to get a great picture. The women of Team USA did some smoking themselves - this time of Canada! The women beat Canada 2-0 to secure the GOLD medal! Sobhy began the thrashing, making drops and nicks perfectly! Natalie followed up with her usual poison of pace and accuracy. It was glorious!

The men dispatched Brasil in 2 matches to win a BRONZE medal. Chris trounced his opponent, Vinicius Costa and Julian toasted chef and pro player Rafael Alarcon, Pan Am Champ 2009. Todd's match wasn't played and Graham had prepared the informal celebrations to begin immediately after the victory! It was truly a team effort!

Team USA enjoyed revisiting the medal stand and leaves Guatemala tomorrow with 5 medals - 1 gold, 3 silvers, 1 bronze. The team picture here was taken at this evening's fete. It's a party for everyone, but by now, it is just plain past my bedtime! Team USA is likely to celebrate to the bitter end - make that the sweet end! Thanks for the journey all you followers! See you in Guadalajara in October 2011! - Hope
